TURNER PROCESS EQUIPMENT LIMITED have recently completed a turnkey supply contract involving the design, manufacture and delivery of a biomass production plant located in Scotland.

The original concept for the plant was to provide a facility capable of producing wood pellets from softwood that met with the clients operational and production requirements. In applying a tailored approach to the initial stages of the project, various design parameters were incorporated to ensure that the delivered article satisfied both the demands of the process and the predicted production output volume.

The main processing equipment was supplied by Amandus Kahl of Germany, and provided the grinding, pelleting and cooling sections of the plant required to produce a high quality premium wood pellet. All ancillary equipment required to complete the process was provided by Turners, inclusive of mechanical handling equipment, spouting and support frames. The selected combined supply chain ensured a cost effective solution for the total investment whilst maintaining key process equipment suitable for producing premium products for both the domestic and commercial heating markets.

Key to the success of the operation was the ability to produce wood pellets from two main raw material sources, both woodchip and sawdust, and to ensure maximum flexibility, dedicated routing was added to the final design to provide the facility of grinding only when required.

The final design resulted in a complete production process, from raw material intake facility to bagged finished product, inclusive of the following key areas:
